The Hay Fishing Classic – Information

Entry fees and entitlements

  • ADULTS $50
  • JUNIOR (Under 16’s) $20

(Juniors who pay senior rate are eligible for Adult prizes and Major entry prizes)

Entry fee includes: 

  • Saturday night roast dinner
  • Entry into 10 major door prizes (including the boat)

Early bird prize:

  • ENTRY INTO MINOR PRIZE – $1,000 CASH
  • Entries must be in by January 21st 2026.
  • Winner must be present 8pm on Friday Night at main administration tent, if not present will Receive $500 prize money

Open competition

  • Longest Cod
  • Most unusual catch
  • Longest Yellow Belly
  • Most Legal Native Fish

Junior competition

  • Longest Murray Cod
  • Longest Yellow Belly
  • Most Carp

All size fish caught go in to a raffle to win an extra prize

Photo entry rules

  • All legal, native fish caught must be photographed and sent to registration tent.
  • Photos must be of a live fish – any signs of excessive blood or improper handling will be considered unfit for entry.
  • Fish must be photographed on a brag mat with the photo taken square on to the fish with numbers visible.
  • Your entry tag must be placed at the top of the mat and be clearly seen in the photo
  • The nose of the fish must be level with the zero mark or against the stopper if your mat has one.
  • The entire fish and the edge of the measuring mat must be visible so the length can be clearly identified.
  • The dorsal fin should be at the top of the mat.
  • The mat should be on a flat surface with no creases.
  • Entries will be judged on length in cm and must be rounded down to the nearest centimetre.
  • To take the lead, the fish must be 1cm longer than the current leader.
  • Any digital manipulation will be considered cheating and entrants will be disqualified from the competition.

Murray Cod & Yellow Belly are to be returned promptly to the water. Carp and Redfin are not to be returned to the water.

Photo entry

  • Phone number will be sent to your registered mobile number prior to event
  • All photo entries must be sent during the competition times:

    Saturday 6am to 6pm

    Sunday 6am to 11am

    Include: your tag, species of fish and length in cm

Fishing Zones

Between Sturts Mark Tree and the Hay Weir (Approximately 10 kilometres either side of the Sandy Point Reserve)

Friday night

  • BBQ from 4pm onwards

Saturday

  • Breakfast – 6:30am to 9am
  • Bacon & Egg Rolls $5
  • Lunch – BBQ from 9am onwards
  • Dinner – Roast meal From 7 to 8pm – free for all entries ($10 for non entries)

Sunday

  • Breakfast – 6:30am to 10am
  • Bacon & Egg Rolls $5
  • Lunch – BBQ 10am – 2pm
